Prometheus’ Garden (1988) + Q: The Winged Serpent (1982)

dir. Bruce Bickford & Larry Cohen

Bruce Bickford—independent auteur of American claymation—kicks off the season with the 30-minute Prometheus’ Garden, blending horror and mythology in a psychedelic art piece. For the debut feature of 2026, celebrated champion of trash Larry Cohen brings us a visually anachronistic horror thriller involving a kaiju in New York City.

On the traditional day of animal sacrifices made to the Roman sun god Sol Indiges, enter this ritual in a spirit of willingness. What would I be willing to sacrifice to see the sunlight of other realities? To see the sun as the gods see it? For the duration of this evening, can I try to make that sacrifice real in my own mind? Cast hexagrams to pry into what you bring to this season in your life and how it might change over the next 83 days.

DON’T WALK ALONE AT NIGHT IN INGLEWOOD is a private film festival curated and hosted by Patrick Hyland. Beginning in mid-August, we celebrate the approach and arrival of several autumnal occurrences including Samhain, the Autumnal Equinox (northern hemisphere), Calan Gaeaf, Day of the Dead, Dziady, Hop-tu-Naa, Kekri, and of course keep the Vigil of All Hallows’ Eve, commonly referred to as Halloween.

Acknowledgment is given here to the Canon of (Christian) hallows whose achievements were the traditional impetus for many of these rituals as well as the associated structures and aesthetics. However, the work of this festival is to venerate the transformative power of art as existing within, not apart from, nature. It is also to celebrate all craftspeople from time immemorial who have sought, through their work, to see beyond the veil of this world. We celebrate those who, often working against unthinkable terrors within and without, have seen beyond.

PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • The Hellcourt is an uninsulated, corrugated steel Quonset hut with an overhead garage door.
  • If it is hot outside, it will be hot inside. Weather permitting, the garage door will be open and fans running.
  • If it is cold outside, space heaters will be running.
  • Events are generally rain or shine; in cases of extreme weather I will be in touch regarding status.
  • Attendance requires a short walk down a slightly rocky driveway — heels are not recommended.
  • Parking is somewhat limited. Please leave space and do not block others in when possible.
  • No RSVP is required. If you have received this link directly, your company is always welcome.
  • A courtesy text in the days or hours leading up to the ritual is helpful for Hellcourt staff, though not required.
